The Philippine Society of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (PSMID) has recently held its annual convention at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas last November 24 and 25.
It featured both local and foreign speakers and was well-attended. I traveled with fellow PSMID Cebu members and the experience was a fruitful one.
The topics were relevant with the highlight topic coming at the end with Dr. Enrique Tayag speaking on the State of the Nation -AIDS (SONA). He challenged physicians to do something with the HIV problem especially in Cebu where the statistics are becoming a greater concern than anywhere else in the country worsened by the problem of IV drug use prevailing. I thought to myself that maybe a social media information campaign in Cebu might be a great help.
Other highlights include the Christmas in November Fellowship Night which featured Cebuano products as prizes, PSMID Cebu female physicians wearing Wonderwoman-like attire, a solo dance number by Dr. Eric Tayag, a chorale contest featuring some groups singing original Christmas song compositions related to infectious diseases. I was one of the judges in that contest which was won by the contingent from Davao. Every participating chorale group went home with a cash prize.
A teaser audiovisual presentation (made by yours truly) about the next PSMID Midyear Convention to be held July of next year in Cebu was also played to the delight of the audience.
Hoping to attend future annual conventions. Meanwhile here is the program for next year's PSMID Midyear Convention.
